What to see in Cantiano

Il Palazzo Comunale (The Town Hall)

The Palazzo Comunale, a 19th century building in pure renaissance style, is located in Piazza Luceoli and is flanked by the Palazzo del Podestà and the Palazzo dei Priori. In the foyer there is a military column, dating back to 305 A.D. on display; it is from the old Flaminian Way where it marked the CXL (140th) mile from Rome. In the beautiful Council Hall, there is a painting depicting "Mane nobiscum Domine" by Felice Damiani da Gubbio, an ancient fireplace in “pietra serena” (new stone) from the Palazzo dei Priori, and a lovely Murano glass chandelier. Paintings, friezes, coats of arm and ornaments make this one of the most beautiful Council Halls in the Province.

In the Sindaco’s office there is an authentic Savonarola Chair "Savonarola" with the crest of the Della Rovere family and the letters “FM”, which leads to believe that it belonged to Duke Francesco Maria II. The Town Library holds numerous important ancient works, including several incunabula, including a particularly valuable "De Bello Gallico" from 1480, as well as a collection of parchments regarding Community’s holdings, written in the language of the early 15th century.
On the exterior of the Town Hall, of particular interest is the “Orologio Pubblico” (Town Clock)  the town clock  which will be treated in a separate section.
