What to see in Cantiano
The Historic Town Centre
Cantiano’s historic town centre, with its patrician “palazzi” and
the monumental Collegiate Church, has the look of a small noble city.
The Medival and Gothic eras have left their evocative imprint in the
so-called “ghetto” quarter. Today, the blocks of buildings, strongly
influenced by Umbrian architecture look onto via Fiorucci.
Along the discontinuous façades, the doors of the “palazzi” open to
numerous stores, workshops and shops – testimony thriving business
activities, interspersed by homes and the so-called “doors of the dead”.
The upper floors the buildings are embellished by elegant balconies and
simple windows with Gothic arches. Lombardi considers via Fiorucci “a
fundamental testimony to the housing system of the Gothic period”.
